Watheroo Bentonite Clay

$25.00

Bentonite clay is used to lower earth resistance by providing land enhancement, which essentially reduces resistance between the soil and earth electrodes (such as copper earth rods or earth mats) by keeping moisture in the soil. Bentonite clay is a natural mineral that acts as a soil conditioner, improving soil structure and allowing more water and fertiliser to be used. Not only does it aid in the retention of water, but it also allows for the passage of air between the sand particles. Aquatic plants, animals, and bacteria are unaffected by bentonite clay.

Description

Watheroo Bentonite Clay

Western Australia’s soil is predominantly sandy. As a result, landscaping and garden work can be difficult for a homeowner due to the sandy soil’s inability to hold water for an extended amount of time. To address this issue, a Watheroo Bentonite Clay cure has been developed. To improve the texture and nutritional content of a sandy soil, organic matter and bentonite clay should be added.

There are basically two types of bentonite clay used in landscaping. They are sodium and calcium.

  • Swelling and sealing capabilities of bentonite clay sodium are used as a function of cement.
  • Bentonite clay calcium is used in sandy soils to improve water retention and increase nutrients due to its non-swelling, soil conditioning qualities.

Benefits

  • Improve water absorption on non wetting and water repellent soil.
  • In sandy soil, increase water and nutrient retention.
  • Improve the soil quality
  • Supply soluble plant nutrients including calcium, potassium, and magnesium

Application rate

New garden beds for flowers, lawns, and native plants.
  • 3 to 5 kg per square meter ( high application rate for the unimproved soil)
  • Compost with high-quality manure ( 5-10kg per sqm)
  • Apply clay and compost to the soil’s surface and mix into the top 15-25 cm by hand or with a rotary hoe.
Established gardens, trees, and lawns.
  • 1-2 kilogram per square metre: apply 500 g per square metre 2–4 times over several weeks, then add 2-5 kg per square metre of excellent quality matured compost.
Creating new vegetable and flower beds, lawns, container plants, and soil mixes:
  • Apply compost or manure as needed after spreading dried bentonite granules throughout the soil surface. Work the bentonite and compost into the root zone to a depth of 25 cm.
Establishing a native plant garden:
  • Work the bentonite and compost into the soil to a depth of 25 cm by spreading dry bentonite granules throughout the soil surface.
  • Mulch your lawn.
Existing gardens and flower beds (light application only):
  • Apply dry bentonite to the soil surface and work it in thoroughly — either by hand or by watering if existing plant roots are at risk.
  • As needed, add manures, composts, and fertilisers.
Light application for Existing pot plants, shrubs and trees:
  • To avoid upsetting roots, combine 4 standard cups of clay in a 10-litre watering can (stir thoroughly) and distribute to the soil in regular applications rather than hefty single treatments.
Existing lawns (light application only):
  • Instead of heavy single treatments, scatter dry bentonite over the grass and water in thoroughly regular light applications, allowing the clay to mix into the soil.

Precautions

  • Keep the bentonite clay granules dry for convenience of use, as granules are highly stable.
  • Use a dust-mask to avoid annihilation when spreading.
  • When wet, spilled clay can be slippery and dangerous.
